pursuit group

Pursuit Group was created with the following guiding principles in mind:

  • Charlotte can and should create world-class properties.
  • Every great project should include an element of local historic preservation.
  • We will focus only on premiere locations in Uptown Charlotte.
  • We will surpass all expectations.
  • Our team will consist of top performers with varied backgrounds.
  • We will tackle and solve development challenges that others couldn't (or wouldn't).

Using these principles, Pursuit Group has already made a significant impact on the landscape of Uptown Charlotte.

Pursuit Group is in the midst of preserving the historic Carolina Theatre, along with developing the Encore. Several other groups have attempted the theatre's restoration but failed. With this in mind, we set out to create something so different that people around the country couldn't help but sit up and take notice.

Pursuit Group's Uptown Properties

Emerson Joseph / 221 S. Tryon Street

The launch of Emerson Joseph, the premiere men's grooming lounge in the country, brought a new approach to men's grooming to Uptown. This venture helped establish our luxury credentials and demonstrated how we treat traditional business categories in a fresh new way. As part of the business, we purchased and redeveloped the entire building at 221 S. Tryon St. — a structure categorized as a "problem building" in that it had a difficult layout, limited retail exposure, and generic retail and office space.

Our "Pursuit Group approach" involved a complete gutting of the building, a restoration of the original historic elements, and a unique plan for each floor. Now the building is one of the best examples of revitalization in Uptown and flourishes as the home to Emerson Joseph, an office condo on the 2nd floor, and a luxury residence on the top floor.

The Trust Condominiums

The purchase of the Home Federal Savings building at 139 S. Tryon St. led to the development of the Trust Condominiums. This building sat vacant for over 6 years at one of the most prominent addresses in Charlotte (4th and S. Tryon St.). Dozens of developers made conventional attempts to transform it into small offices or mid-level condominiums, for example, and failed. So Pursuit Group went in the opposite direction. We created the most exclusive boutique, luxury condominium in Charlotte (challenged now by Encore, of course). The entire building includes only eight large condominiums, each 3,500-7,000 square feet, and a premiere restaurant space. Suddenly, parking was no longer an issue, and we had a unique, desirable project. In the end, buyers agreed. The building is already sold out, the restaurant space is filled, and the Trust is on its way to becoming one of the most distinctive condominium projects in the Southeast. Move in date: March 2008.

Grace Zion Church

Pursuit Group understands that increasing condominium development in Uptown mandates top-notch lifestyle amenities for new residents. With that in mind, we are converting the Grace Zion Church on Brevard St. (two blocks from Tryon St.) into a top-quality child-care facility. Thus one of the most historically significant buildings in Uptown will serve one of the greatest local needs. And what cooler place for kids than a facility that looks like a castle? Open date: January 2009.
